Hello YODL community, I'm Tolen Moirangthem, a Ph.D. candidate in Food and Biological Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, specializing in radiofrequency (RF) heating and structural analysis of plant-based foods. My research uses advanced imaging tools like synchrotron X-ray micro-CT and computational modeling to enhance the processing and functionality of pulses such as peas and pinto beans. As I prepare to defend my thesis this summer, I'm looking to **collaborate with startups and scaleups in the Canadian plant protein space** that are facing challenges like: - Variability in feedstock (moisture/temperature) - Low energy efficiency in protein extraction - Off-flavors and poor flavor retention - Need for non-chemical, scalable processing solutions I'm excited to co-develop **science-driven, practical solutions** -whether it's process design, flavor improvement, or securing funding through programs like Mitacs Accelerate.
