Ontario Food Technology Pilot is a collaborative initiative led by the Canadian Food Innovation Network (CFIN) and funded in part by the Government of Canada through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario). It was created to turn early-stage food innovation into market-ready solutions.

With an increase in automation in the Foodtech space comes an increase in concern over OT Cyber Security. Europe is leading the charge by requiring IEC-62443-4-2 compliance for a variety of industries, and we are seeing signs that Canada will follow suit with similar expectations/requirements. We at Phoenix Contact Canada have developed an Industrial De-Militarized Zone (IDMZ) solution for isolating a plant/IT network from machine/OT network. This reduces traffic between networks and eliminates backdoor access in either direction while providing a secure remote access point on the machine network. IT likes this approach because they are only concerned with incorporating a single port into their existing network (instead of having to vet a full production machine's network impact).
