Coca-Cola recently announced the launch of a new product called Simply Pop, a new prebiotic soda that is set to compete with Poppi and Olipop.
Coca-Cola says that the "fruit-forward" line of sodas are made with vitamin C and Zinc to support immune function as well as 6 grams of prebiotic fiber to promote gut health.
Did you know that in 2005, Coca-Cola filed a patent (US8524304B2) titled 'High-potency sweetener composition with probiotics/prebiotics and compositions sweetened therewith" but later abandoned the patent?
Similarly, in 2011, PepsiCo filed for a patent (US9788563B2) titled 'Encapsulation system for protection of probiotics during processing" but never launched any probiotic product.
This is an example of innovation that is way ahead of market trends.
