NLC Energy, based with its anaerobic food/dairy digesters in Wisconsin, has been fast tracked by a global consumer drink bottler to use biogenic, carbon negative CO2 made in Denmark, WI in their products. The CO2 is produced along with biogas, cleaned, purified, and sold as both liquid and dry ice. The resultant products are ISBT beverage grade and has been the result of over 5 years of product development.
As an industry first for the beverage industry, NLCE works with dairy farmers and food manufacturers to anaerobically digest the food/dairy waste in a carbon negative process and thus does not produce CO2 industrially as from ethanol, ammonia plants or drilling or use vast land resources. Scientific studies have shown that CO2 produced via fermentation versus industrial processes give a beverage smaller and more sensorially pleasing bubbles, a more pronounced sweet taste and higher fineness of sparkling.
NLCE is able to co-develop biogenic CO2 with existing dairy and food digesters as well as landfills to upgrade and purify CO2 for beverage consumption.
In the immediate short term, NLCE is looking for beverage brands that are open to doing sensory tests on this biogenic CO2 to see how it enhances their product taste and quality. This CO2 would be a drop in to existing CO2 supply and immediately decarbonizes the beverage ingredients for those looking to do better for our earth.
I am open to discussions on this new brand of CO2 and welcome feedback, interest and comments.
Thank you,
George Pierce
