Can added sugars be included on a nutrition facts label?

The title basically says it all-- we run a small food business and are interested in informing consumers about the grams of added sugar in our product. I know an added sugars line isn't mandated on the nutrition label, but is this something we can include if we choose? Thanks for any insight!

Hi Nuala,

The CFIA labelling guide states there is some additional nutritional information which may be declared in an NFt. According to the website, "Only the additional information included in Figure 18.1(E) and (F) or 19.1(B) of the Directory of Nutrition Facts Table Formats is permitted in the Nutrition Facts table."

There are several Regulatory consultants within the YODL community who might be able to help you do a full label review. @Sharon Grewal @Carol Culhane

Thank you, Lavina! This is really helpful.

Follow-up question for the regulatory folks-- we can't include added sugars on the nutrition label, but is this still something we can talk about or advertise on social media or elsewhere?
