FBO Annual Golf Tournament and Town Hall & Processor Panel - Reflections

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the FBO Annual Golf Tournament and Town Hall at the stunning Lionhead Golf Club & Conference Centre. The event was a blend of insightful discussions and beautiful surroundings.

FBO CEO, Chris Conway updated us on his work with the Province and Food and Beverage Canada. Next, Rosanna Lamanna from Fuller Landau hosted a Processor Panel where industry experts discussed key challenges within our sector.

Here are the key challenges & takeaways:

🔹 Labour & Automation: Emphasizing the need for upskilling and integrating automation to enhance productivity.

🔹 Investment & Interest Rates: Navigating higher interest rates and reduced margins. Continuous improvement is crucial-focus on profitable SKUs and reduce costs.

🔹 Regulatory Challenges: Addressing regulatory burdens that could impede growth. Building strong government relationships is essential. Ministers need to understand our business metrics-invite them to your facilities! You have more power than you think.

🔹 Entrepreneurial Mindset: Stop making excuses, be proactive, and increase productivity. "Investment hates uncertainty"-our supply chain relies on promises being kept.

🔹 AI Integration: Leverage AI to tackle significant challenges. Involve your team and embrace AI as a game changer to break down barriers and move the food sector forward.

I'd love to hear your thoughts! Let's continue to innovate and drive our industry forward! 🚀

Great recap Marsha! Thanks for sharing. FBO always does great events. I love all the points above, but the entrereneurial mindset really resonates with me. Right sizing processes and having a hacker mentality when problem solving is something I note in the most successful companies we work with, regardless of their size.
