Timely- Food and Beverage Ontario- Investment Attraction Challenges and US Tariffs

On January 28, Food and Beverage Ontario will be holding important conversations with stakeholders focusing on investment attraction, automation, and productivity within the province's food and beverage processing industry.

FBO's Investment Attraction and Productivity Consultation will be hosted by Doug Alexander, FBO Board Member and Vice President of Sustainability and Government Relations at Belmont Food Group. This event is an opportunity to contribute to discussions identifying the challenges and solutions to the most pressing issues facing Ontario's processors, including looming 25% tariffs that threaten the sector's growth and productivity.

Conversations will be facilitated with initial key topics that include:
- Impact of the expected 25% US Tariffs
- Reversing decline in productivity in Canada
- Declining business investment in Canada
- Discussing causes and solutions
- Increasing Automation investment and its impact
- Scale and Capacity through Export Opportunities
- Supporting a Strategic approach to investment attraction and where the government can impact it.

This session will follow the format of FBO's previous plastics consultation, bringing together processors, government representatives, equipment companies, sector service providers, and funders to collaboratively address the productivity challenges currently facing our industry. Stakeholder input from these consultations will inform a future report to brief government and decision makers of sector experiences, opportunities, and actionable solutions to support strategic investment attraction.

This session, we will also welcome Ross Prusakowski, Deputy Chief Economist from Export Development Canada | Exportation et développement Canada as one of our speakers. Ross's presentation will focus on what we can expect from the new Trump administration.
