The resilience of Canada's food economy is negatively impacted by a reliance on imported foods, while a portion of existing processing and packing capacity remains underutilized. Together, these factors limit the industry's economic potential and see the continued export of raw commodities that could be processed and packed domestically prior to their export as value added goods.
Second Harvest and VCMI are examining where underutilized capacity exists across all sectors of the Canadian food industry, quantifying the factors driving it, and pinpointing gaps in current capacity. The findings will provide industry and government with the evidence needed to capture greater value domestically, and how this change could be achieved.
To ensure that research findings accurately reflect conditions across your sector, please take five minutes to complete this online survey (here is the LINK).
Please note that your response is needed by Wednesday, September 30. All responses are treated in the strictest confidence, and each one strengthens the value of the findings for the industry as a whole.
