Hello, I'm looking for some packaging help. Does anyone have any experience getting a 'short form' corporate address from Canada Post (company name, city, province, postal code) that can be added to food packaging?
Many Canadian brands (large & small) list their address this way but nobody at Canada Post seems to know how to set it up.
Thank you so much! The regulations for labeling for pet food in Canada haven't been updated since 2001. They still speak to having a full address and I didn't understand how other food brands listed a 'short form' address. I wondered if there was some sort of service from Canada Post where you registered to have your postal address shortened, but your explanation helps to clarify how the practice has changed.
Hi James. I have a lot of experience with this sort of thing but I'm not sure what you mean by "setting it up". On the back of the packaging you need to have your designer put your company name, followed by the city, province, and postal code. In the past, you had to have a full address but this is no longer the case.
I spotted your question on Startup CPG and provided a response there for you. However, this question is more specific to pet food.
As mentioned, There is no such thing from Canada Post for a shortened address. The shortest method to present the domicile that CFIA allows as a standard is what you see in your photo. The only other thing you might shorten is the official province abbreviation. It is mandatory to provide the registered corporate domicile as per your Corporation registration for where the business is conducted. So if you have a production facility and your head office is a different address, you must use your head office.
As for specific pack standards around presentation of certain other elements: pet food labeling guidelines are regulated by the Consumer Packaging and Labeling Act administered by Industry Canada.
